Joseph Kabange, Elected President of the DRC

After the Supreme Court rejected appeals by the Union for the Nation by Jean-Pierre Bemba, Joseph Kabila Kabange was officially declared as the First President of the Third Republic.
The Supreme Court of Justice has delivered its verdict in the electoral disputes which opposed Jean-Pierre Bemba, the defeated candidate of the Union for the Nation, the Independent Electoral Commission.
The high court has just declared “unfounded” the various actions brought by Jean-Pierre Bemba. Therefore, under the law, the incumbent president, Joseph Kabila Kabange will definitely confirmed winner of the presidential election on October 29.
To recap, Wednesday, November 15, 2006 the Independent Electoral Commission had declared Joseph Kabila Kabange winner of the presidential election with 58.05% of votes against 41.95% for his challenger Jean-Pierre Bemba.
Jean-Pierre Bemba was then dismissed these findings by introducing several appeals to the Supreme Court of Justice in accordance with the electoral law.
Today’s ruling by the High Court put an end to uncertainty and opens the way for the inauguration of Joseph Kabila to the highest office of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
